Family and residence

Partner of a New Zealander Resident Visa

This residence route is for people in a genuine and stable relationship with a New Zealand citizen or resident.

The relationship evidence matters

Applicants need to show that the partnership is genuine, stable and ongoing, and that the couple have lived together for the required period. Evidence should cover the relationship over time, not simply the period immediately before applying.

Helpful documents

Useful evidence may include joint financial records, tenancy or home ownership documents, correspondence sent to the shared address, travel records, photographs, messages and statements from people who know the relationship. Quality and consistency are more important than volume.

Plan the application carefully

Both the applicant and supporting partner must meet the relevant health, character and sponsorship requirements. Check current instructions and prepare a clear timeline before lodging.
